Have you ever had the feeling that your whole life so far might have been leading to one pivotal moment?
To begin with we might think it’s one chance encounter, but when we trace it back, really sit and analyse how we got here, we see a web of thousands of tiny, seemingly insignificant but connecting interactions that lead to one moment.
One moment when find yourself literally standing at the precipice and desperately trying to find the courage to make a deliberate decision and just…jump.
And so what do we do? Do we give in to the fear? Listen to that negative little voice that tells us:
“You’re not good enough”
“You’re not worth it”
“You don’t deserve this”
“You can never have it, so why even try? It’s too hard. You’re just going to fail”
But if we truly want to make a change is there really a choice at all? What’s the alternative? We can stay stuck, stagnant, complaining that things never change, but never making a change. That sounds like a life never fulfilling your potential. Never living your dream. And I don’t know about you, but that’s not good enough for me.
But how do we get out of our own way, silence the doubt and give ourselves permission to dream?
Now I definitely don’t claim to have all the answers, or to have fulfilled my own dreams…yet. But I am on my journey and here’s the truth as I see it:
Imagine yourself living your life with your dream or vision fulfilled. Really immerse yourself in that reality. Feel it. Live it. Own it. Revisit that reality often, several times a day if need be to keep reminding yourself of what you want.
If it helps, create a vision board to really help reinforce your goals. A constant visual reminder of where you want to be (mine’s on the bathroom mirror – see below). Collect quotes and images that inspire you and keep adding to it. When an idea or inspiration strikes, write your own notes and add them to the mix.
You’re here now, but you want to be ——-> all the way over there. It might see impossible but how does that saying go? Even the longest journey begins with a single step.
Start with the big picture stuff and work backwards. Break it down into manageable “mini-goals”.
If we have a good, solid plan it’s simply a matter of checking off one step at a time. Before we know it there are less steps in front than behind and our dreams seem completely achievable
Ask for Help
It can all seem a little overwhelming at times. So we may need to be open to accepting help. Asking for help may just be in the form of a conscious decision to open your mind to what the universe offers you and the ability to recognise the opportunities that present themselves to you.
Look to people you admire who, in your eyes, have “made it”. Find out how they got there. There’s a wealth of resources out there at our fingertips these days. Read biographies, follow social media feeds, watch videos and Google like crazy!
If there is someone in your immediate network that you believe might be able to help you achieve your vision, just ask. You’ll never know if you never ask. In my experience, most people are kind and generous. And not many successful people claim to have done it on their own. They’ve had help along the way and for the most part are ready and willing to pay it forward.
This is key. We can’t expect to have anything of real value with out working for it. It’s going to be hard. It’s going to be uncomfortable. It’s going to challenge you, but this is how you know that you are growing and evolving into the person that has accomplished everything that you set out to achieve when you visualised your dream.
Time to leap…
